San Francisco—Italy not only won the recent FIFA World Cup Soccer tournament, but were also the most voracious consumers of mobile content from the event, according to a report from Telephia.
The report, which was part of Telephia’s third-quarter European Subscriber and Device Report, found that 6 percent of Italians accessed mobile content related to the World Cup, compared to 3 percent of French mobile subscribers. France was runner-up in the tournament.
Overall, 14 percent of European customers subscribing to a 3G service accessed some form of World Cup content compared with only 3 percent for non-3G mobile subscribers.
“The World Cup showcased how important mobile phones have become as a source of immediate information and relevant content for consumers, beyond just a tool to communicate,” said Kanishka Agarwal, vice president of new products at Telephia.
