Sprint Nextel launches made-for-mobile channels

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.—Sprint Nextel Corp. launched a made-for-mobile sports and entertainment video programming network called Sprint Power View.

The offering includes original programming focused on sports and entertainment updates. The programming includes studio-based reporting as well as on-location stories produced by 15 mobile camera crews.

Shows available with the launch of the offering include NFL Game Center, a 5-minute preview of the day’s professional football happenings; U.S. Open Wrapup Report, which features commentary from Jim Courier and Carrie Milbank; and The Mobile Fix, a 5-minute show updated daily at 5 p.m. that features entertainment news and gossip. A variety of other shows are immediately available and the company said it eventually plans to add additional programming focused on topics such as fantasy football, gaming and music.

The service is free to Sprint Vision and Power Vision subscribers, said the company. A variety of Sanyo, Samsung and LG phone models currently support the programming.

Subscribers can download a Java application that plays all shows and offers text alert updates or they can view programming on Sprint TV on channels 33 and 35, said the company.
