The U.K.-based publisher will launch “Mobile Moments,” a branded distribution channel featuring on-demand video clips from “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Animal House,” “E.T.,” “Jurassic Park” and other films. I-play called the move “a significant shift” in its content strategy, which has been centered on selling wireless games through carrier decks and its direct-to-consumer Internet storefront.
The wireless film clips are expected to come to market later this year.
“Having moved our mobile gaming business into a position of sustained operational profitability, we continuously look at ways to leverage our internal technology and strong brand relationships to further build revenues,” said David Gosen, I-play’s chief executive officer. “The move into hosting and serving streaming video content is a natural evolution for the business that fully utilizes the capabilities of our platform, our distribution and consumer insight.”
