SAN DIEGO—Leap Wireless International Inc. plans to launch its newest market, Kansas City, Mo., in less than two weeks and is gearing up to launch service in Portland, Ore., as well.
According to the Cricket Communications Inc. Web site, service will start in Kansas City on Oct. 3. Cricket lists Portland, Ore., as “coming soon,” which in past launches has translated into a two- to four-week wait. Cricket service in Portland will be provided in partnership with LCW Wireless L.L.C., a designated entity which owns a spectrum license in that city.
Leap formed a joint venture with LCW and two other companies earlier this year to provide service to Portland, Salem, and Eugene, Ore.
Kansas Cityis Leap’s first launch in Missouri.
The site also notes that Cricket service in these areas will be provided by Leap partner Alaska Native Broadband License 1.
Leap’s other markets in Oregon include Salem and Eugene. Kansas City is its first launch in Missouri.
