Cingular leans on Tellme for 411

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.—Cingular Wireless L.L.C. announced it will expand its directory assistance and search agreement with Tellme Networks Inc. so that the vendor will now power all of the carrier’s 411 calls. Tellme previously scored a deal with AT&T Wireless Services Inc. in 2001. Cingular acquired the carrier two years ago.

“Together with Cingular, we are providing the most creative and useful mobile search service available today by giving 411 callers fast and easy access to information nationwide. We are very excited to be expanding the work we’ve been doing with Cingular and partnering with their team to innovate the 411 experience,” said Jeff Kunins, vice president of product management at Tellme.

Cingular will use Tellme for a variety of 411 services including searching for wireline business, residential and government listings, reverse lookup, movie show times and locations, turn-by-turn driving directions and other services.

Tellme powers a variety of voice-based services, including customer service for Merrill Lynch, E*TRADE Financial and American Airlines, directory assistance for Verizon Communications Inc., and e-commerce services for Amazon.com and Fandango.
