MEXICO CITY-Prepaid wireless provider TracFone Wireless Inc. reported soaring third-quarter revenues of $330 million, a 36-percent increase over its year-ago figure of $243 million.
The Miami-based prepaid carrier’s subscriber base grew by 41.1 percent year-over-year, from 5.1 million to 7.2 million as the carrier added 215,000 subscribers during the third quarter. TracFone has landed a total of 1.1 million customers since the beginning of the year.
However, the carrier’s customer churn also ticked up year-over-year, jumping from 4.8 percent to 5.4 percent.
Though the carrier didn’t release its net income, it did post quarterly earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $37 million, up 4.3 percent form last year’s $36 million.
TracFone, which is owned by Latin American telecommunications provider America Movil, sells prepaid services under its own brand and the Net10 brand using dozens of wireless network partners.
