Brightpoint snags exclusive N.A. deal for HTC devices

PLAINFIELD, Ind.—High Tech Computer Corp. has tapped Brightpoint Inc. to serve as the exclusive North American distributor for its Microsoft Corp. Windows Mobile-based GSM devices and accessories.

The 9-year-old manufacturer said Brightpoint will distribute HTC’s products to carriers, mobile virtual network operators and retailers in the United States and Canada. The deal builds on an existing relationship that has seen Brightpoint handle HTC’s smart phones in several European markets.

The pact “will provide us with the opportunity to further expand our market penetration,” said Todd Achilles, vice president of sales and marketing for HTC America. “Thanks to the great relationship Brightpoint has with the regional carriers, our GSM devices will always be easy to find and purchase at a variety of outlets across North America.”

HTC is headquartered in Taiwan; the company last year opened an American subsidiary outside Seattle. The firm has gained traction with smart phones and PDAs that are available both as HTC-branded devices and as operator-branded handsets.
