Verizon Wireless rings in new year

Verizon Wireless is pushing their mobile music offerings by allowing users to download a free ringtone on New Year’s Eve.
Subscribers can text the word “tone” to short code 2007 to get instructions on how to download a free ringtone. Users can choose from a variety of music clips, but the promotion will end as revelers welcome in the new year.
The move is the latest effort by a U.S. carrier to promote mobile music services. Sprint Nextel Corp. continues to offer discounted full-track downloads, and many service providers have inked exclusive deals to provide in-concert broadcasts or “leaked” singles that are available to wireless users before they hit radio airwaves.
