Mdog.com is the latest player in the mobile blogging arena with a portal for mobile phones.
The offering allows users of Web-enabled phones to post and read blog entries, upload photos and respond to comments on major blog services including Blogger, WordPress, Typepad, Xanga, AOL Blogs and Livejournal. Mdog’s technology formats the content for mobile phones; media companies including Forbes and The Wall Street Journal have licensed the software to bring their Internet sites to wireless users.
The mobile blogging space has become increasingly crowded with both established players and new startups looking to cash in. Cingular Wireless L.L.C. made headlines earlier this month with a deal to offer the popular MySpace service to subscribers; smaller pure-play companies include FunMobility, AirG, Jumbuck and Intercasting Corp.’s Rabble.
“The major blogging services helped make blogging a mass-market phenomenon by making it easy for non-technical bloggers to get up and running quickly,” said Mdog founder Keith Gerard. “We believe we can do the same thing for mobile blogging.”
