Mobidia Inc., a Canadian mobile service management company, has received a fresh infusion of $3.2 million from DBC Venture Capital, bringing the company’s total funding to around $6 million.
Mobidia said its “wave” products give wireless carriers and content providers the ability to change quality of service levels for specific applications. The company said the products can increase revenues by maximizing network efficiency, capacity, performance and reliability.
Specifically, Mobidia’s offering includes three elements: the device-level Mobidia Intelligent Client, the network-level Mobidia Advanced Gateway and the Web-based Mobidia Integrated Console. Mobidia said the client portion of its service helps ensure efficient bandwidth usage and access by providing devices with the appropriate level of service from the network based on the application. The company’s gateway provides wireless carriers with information on users and applications. And the company’s Mobidia Integrated Console includes a set of tools for managing and changing services, and can collect user and application data for marketing purposes.
“We are seeing strong demand for our wave solution from carriers that want to differentiate their multimedia services and price them based on quality, customer experience and usage behavior,” Mobidia President and CEO Gary Tauss said.
“BDC has increased its investment in Mobidia because of the company’s achievements and the important market potential for its technology,” said Greg Smith, director of technology seed investments at the venture capital firm. Smith is also a member of Mobidia’s board of directors.
The Richmond, British Columbia-based company markets its products as an “end-to-end solution that enables wireless network operators to profitably offer new services and applications, such as the sharing of user-generated content and mobile video, while setting new standards for the mobile user’s quality of experience.”
