Reaction to iPhone

Compete Inc.: “While Apple says it will soon reinvent the (music phone) category with the iPhone, shoppers say price, if not the need to switch carriers, may limit their purchase of the device. . The sweet spot for the iPhone appears to be closer to $200.”

USA Today: “Verizon Wireless . passed on the chance to be the exclusive distributor of the iPhone almost two years ago, balking at Apple’s rich financial terms and other demands . Apple and Cingular have declined to discuss terms of their alliance.”

Avi Greengart, Current Analysis: “What happened in Las Vegas stayed in Las Vegas, because the iPhone was in San Francisco.”

Albert Lin, American Technology Research: “In late 3Q 2004, Cingular launched an exclusive and highly sought-after phone called the Razr, (which) moved net subscriber adds per quarter from the 400K-500K range to the 1-million-plus. We believe the Apple iPhone could have similar results.”
