Verizon Wireless said it won a permanent injunction and default judgment against Specialized Programming and Marketing L.L.C., which the carrier had sued for spamming its customers.
Verizon Wireless said Specialized sent 100,000 unsolicited text messages to its customers offering them a vacation prize. The ruling requires Specialized to pay damages of more than $200,000, said the wireless carrier.
The original lawsuit was filed in October 2005 against Passport Holidays, but was later amended after Passport said Specialized was actually the company that sent the messages. A settlement reached between Verizon Wireless and Passport calls for Passport to pay $10,000 and to not send any additional messages to Verizon Wireless customers.
