Amobee Media Systems is the latest startup on the ad-supported mobile game space, teaming with Exit Games to deliver marketing messages in titles running on Java and BREW handsets.
Exit is a German-based firm that provides technology for connected play to customers including Cingular Wireless, Verizon Wireless, Glu Mobile Inc. and Qualcomm Inc. Exit’s technology will be integrated with an SDK from Amobee that will allow handsets to receive ads from Amobee’s mobile ad server.
Marketing messages will be displayed onscreen during idle game time as well as into the gaming environment.
“In-game advertising has a tremendous positive impact on the videogame industry, as it lowers the cost of games while dramatically increasing the number of downloads,” said Tom Sperry, CEO of Exit Games USA.
Ad-supported mobile game storefronts appear to have gained substantial traction in recent months as paid downloads struggle to find a mass-market audience. Hovr Inc. last month launched on online community with more than 100 free titles, and Greystripe Inc. offers more than 400 free games from 46 publishers.
