While 77% of cellphone users are “slightly familiar” with Apple Inc.’s iPhone and 41% have a good impression of the yet-to-be-released device, only 6% said they were likely to purchase the device within the next year, according to a new poll conducted by Markitecture.
Markitecture surveyed 1,300 people who both owned their cellphone and are responsible for the monthly payments. The company points out that while 6% might appear low for a high-profile product launch, it would be significant in the cellphone market.
“The highly successful Motorola Razr after its launch in 2004 achieved a 6% market share at its peak,” the report added.
Respondents cited cost as the top reason for not wanting to purchase the device, while carrier issues and/or contracts came in at a close second.
