Sprint Nextel gets new CMO: Carrier also working with new ad firm

Yet another executive is exiting through Sprint Nextel Corp.’s revolving front-office door.
The carrier said Mark Schweitzer will step down from his post as chief marketing officer at the end of the month. Schweitzer will be replaced by Tim Kelly, who currently oversees the operator’s Customer Management business.
Sprint Nextel recently refreshed its advertising efforts by hiring a new advertising firm.
Senior VP of Finance Operations Steve Nielsen will fill Kelly’s shoes as chief service officer at Customer Management. Both Kelly and Nielsen will report to CEO Gary Forsee.
“Mark has been a key member of Sprint Nextel’s leadership team for more than ten years, and we have been fortunate beneficiaries of his innovation and leadership,” Forsee said. “I thank Mark for his many contributions, and I am pleased to have Tim and Steve move to these new roles where they can continue to position the company for success.”
The announcement follows the departure earlier this year of Paul Reddick and John Styers, both of whom were key executives in Sprint Nextel’s content and mobile advertising businesses. Earlier this week, rival carrier AT&T Mobility confirmed the departure of Jim Ryan, who had overseen the operator’s mobile video and music services.
