German telecom giant Deutsche Telekom AG has no intention of selling its U.S. wireless operations T-Mobile USA Inc., according to Rene Obermann, CEO of the international operator. Obermann reportedly told attendees at an industry conference that such a sale would be “short-sighted.”
T-Mobile USA has been a financial bright spot for DT, which purchased the business for $30 billion in 2001. T-Mobile USA has grown successfully even as its parent company has faced stiff competition in its home country.
Reuters reported that Obermann said Deutsche Telekom’s U.S. wireless operation was a “core business” for the company now and would continue to be in the future. Rumors had circulated last month that some DT shareholders were interested in pushing the company to sell its U.S. operations.
