Mobile entertainment startup RemoTV announced a beta launch of a free application that allows cellphone users to access multimedia from their PCs.
The Connecticut-based newcomer said mobile users can create channels of content with the application and share video, audio and images with friends from their phones. RemoTV members can invite others to join via text message or e-mail, and the offering is compatible with “many” handsets from AT&T Mobility and Sprint Nextel Corp.
“With RemoTV we are looking to open the wireless space to user-generated content as well as giving consumers access to their desktop media, making the cellular phone truly a portable device,” said CEO Chris Penner. “As our user base continues to grow and we develop a greater database of shared user content, we look for RemoTV to become the ultimate peer-to-peer entertainment network for wireless consumers.”
RemoTV said it will limit the number of users in the beta test “in order to control growth and incorporate new features.” A premium offering will be available following the 60-day trial.
RemoTV competes against the likes of Orb and mywaves.com.
