The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Kenya: Alcatel-Lucent announced a deal with Celtel to upgrade the carrier’s GSM/EDGE network.
WiMAX
–Poland: Multimedia Polska chose Airspan Networks Inc. to provide its HiperMAX and MicroMAX base stations and customer premises equipment to expand the carrier’s network offerings.
–United States: NextPhase Wireless said it plans to launch a pre-WiMAX network in Hollywood, Calif.
Wi-Fi
–Taiwan: Proxim Wireless Corp. said Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in Taipei has deployed its ORiNOCO AP-4000 series of Wi-Fi access points to provide high-speed access throughout its 420 guest rooms and suites.
Miscellaneous
–Denmark: Butlernetworks deployed Alvarion Ltd.‘s BreezeACCESS VL platform for a national broadband wireless network in the country.
–Iceland: L.M. Ericsson said it won a contract to provide its mobile TV solution to Siminn.
–Italy: UTStarcom Inc. announced a contract to supply its iAN8K B1000 Multiservice Access Node/Gateway to Tiscali Italia S.p.A. to support delivery of high-speed data, voice over IP and IPTV services in the country.
–Malaysia: Nokia and MiTV Corporation Sdn Bhd announced plans to work together to launch a commercial mobile broadcast TV service based on DVB-H technology during the second half of this year.
–United States: TeleCommunication Systems Inc. said it won a $1.1 million contract to provide satellite system components to the Project Manager, Defense Communications and Army Transmission System team at Ft. Monmouth, N.J. Also in the United States, Mobile Assets Corp. said its Mobi Axxess Inc. subsidiary signed a contract to launch a Fiber in the Air wireless network in southwest Utah.
