Rural wireless service provider Dobson Communications Corp. is reportedly considering a sale and has hired Morgan Stanley to help the company explore its options, according to the Wall Street Journal.
A spokesman for Dobson could not immediately be reached for comment.
The possibility of a Dobson sale comes on the heels of two private-equity firms agreeing to buy Alltel Corp. in a $27.5 billion deal.
Dobson’s stock was trading up more than 8% early Monday at $10.97 per share, providing a market capitalization of around $1.88 billion.
Dobson operates under the Cellular One brand and serves 17 states. The carrier has a customer base of more than 1.6 million subscribers and operates a network covering about 12.7 million potential customers.
