The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–China: Motorola Inc. said it won a contract with China Mobile Communications Corp. to expand the carrier’s GSM network. The deal is valued at $394 million.
–Finland: L.M. Ericsson was chosen by Elisa to provide W-CDMA/HSPA network equipment to nearly double the carrier’s existing network.
–Kuwait: Motorola Inc. won a contract with MTC Kuwait to expand and upgrade the carrier’s nationwide 3G HSDPA network and deploy an HSUPA network in the country.
–Paraguay: Personal awarded a contract to L.M. Ericsson to expand, upgrade and modernize the carrier’s GSM network with mobile softswitch to increase coverage and capacity nationwide.
–United States: nTelos Holdings Corp. selected Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade its wireless network, including 1x EV-DO Rev. A equipment and IP routers for backhaul. The three-year agreement is valued at up to $88.2 million.
WiMAX
–United States: Alvarion Ltd. said AT&T Alascom has chosen its BreezeMAX 2.3 GHz TDD equipment for commercial WiMAX system in Alaska.
Wi-Fi
–United States: Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport re-launched its Wi-Fi network with a new service provide by Boingo Wireless subsidiary Concourse Communications Group L.L.C.
Miscellaneous
–Europe: Nokia Siemens Networks and Telefonica O2 Europe said they extended their existing frame agreement on multimedia messaging service in Ireland, the United Kingdom and Germany.
