The following list includes venture capital and other investments into wireless companies announced during the past week. The value of the investment is included when available.
–BiTMICRO: Woodside Investments L.P. led a $9.3 million Series F funding round into BiTMICRO Networks. The company said it will use the funds to further ramp production, sales and marketing operations and to support its R&D initiatives in the creation of a new generation of flash-based E-Disk solid state disk and semiconductor storage systems.
–Brightstar: PNC Financial Services Group Inc. led a $500 million investment into cellphone distributor Brightstar Corp. The investment comes in the form of a senior secured credit facility. Brightstar said it will use the funds for working capital and to support expansion of its global activities.
–GeoSentric: Horizon Group and Schroders Private Bank led a $13.1 million investment into geo-social networking company GeoSentric. The company said it will use the funds to expand its sales and marketing efforts as well as research and development.
–Groove Mobile: ORIX Venture Finance invested $6 million into Groove Mobile, a mobile music service provider. Groove said the latest round of funding to expand its global presence.
–Kajeet: Draper Fisher Jurvetson Growth Fund led a $36.8 million Series B round of funding into pay-as-you-go MVNO Kajeet. Existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners, Fidelity Ventures, Gabriel Venture Partners and InterWest Partners also participated. Randy Glenn of DFJ Growth Fund joins the company’s board or directors in connection with the funding.
–Quattro: Globespan Capital Partners and Highland Capital Partners invested $12.3 million into Quattro Wireless during the company’s Series B funding round. The company’s total venture investments stand at $18 million. Quattro specializes in mobile advertising.
–TelASIC: ATA Ventures led a $12.5 million investment into TelASIC Communications, which supplies Remote Radio Head products for HSDPA/W-CDMA base stations. Current investors, including Mission Ventures, Redpoint Ventures and The IPO Group also participated in the funding. The company said it will use the funds to expand its manufacturing operations and customer support organization.
–Twistbox Entertainment: An affiliate of Valueact Capital led a $19.5 million funding round into Twistbox Entertainment Inc., which provides mobile entertainment services. The company said it will use the funding to drive growth of its new products, including its Web2Mobile Storefronts, Play4Prizes and Mobile Advertising. Jimmy Price, a managing director at Valueact Capital SmallCap Partners, will join Twistbox’s board of directors in connection with the financing.
–VoodooVox: Softbank Capital led an $8.1 million Series D funding round into VoodooVox. Existing investors Apax Partners, Disney’s Steamboat Ventures and Village Ventures also participated. VoodooVox has developed In-Call Media, which inserts ad-supported audio content into the call stream of high-call-volume companies. Steve Murray, partner at Softbank Capital, joins VoodooVox’s board of directors in connection with the funding.
