VZW lands Zeppelin: Carrier snares mobile rights to rock band’s content

Verizon Wireless landed the exclusive rights to distribute Led Zeppelin’s songs over-the-air, with ringtones, ringback tones, alert tones and wallpapers available immediately and full-song downloads available starting Nov. 13.
Users with Vcast Music-enabled phones can text ZEP to 8901 for information on how to download the Led Zeppelin content.
The New York Times reported that the group had until now refrained from digital distribution, and that a bidding war had been going on over the rights to administer its catalog of songs.
Nov. 13 also marks the release date of the new Led Zeppelin album “Mothership.” The three remaining members of Led Zeppelin are planning to reunite for a concert Nov. 26 in honor of Atlantic records founder Ahmet Ertegun.
