Nokia seeks more MOSHers

Nokia Corp. is preparing to add a new feature to its mobile sharing site, MOSH, that will allow users to request specific content from the growing number of members and developers that frequent the site.
SEEK will allow the MOSH community to respond with suggestions or custom content. Nokia hopes the new interactive feature will further connect users and drive more dialogue between members who focus on developing, downloading or uploading. The company wanted to give developers an open platform to improve the service by creating an environment for users and developers to innovate collaboratively.
Calling it the third dimension of the site, George Linardos, director of business development at Nokia, thinks there’s a good chance SEEK will open the floodgates to even more content not yet available.
MOSH, which is short for mobilize and share, has tallied more than 6 million downloads since its beta launch Aug. 9. The site averages 150,000 downloads per week, with users logging in from more than 100 countries every day.
“It’s quickly become this global platform for exchanging mobile content,” Linardos said. Around 80% of the content uploaded to the site are images, while 70% of the downloads are applications and games. “The core activity is really focused on applications and games,” Linardos said.
“MOSH has a strong focus on responding to the needs of its community of users and feedback from the community is the motivation for SEEK,” said Lee Epting, VP of Forum Nokia. “With SEEK, the possibilities are endless: mobile scavenger hunts, sponsored SEEK competitions, or collaboration on applications by developers in India, Russia and the United States. We expect this to take creativity and mobile customization to a new level.”
SEEK is set to launch Dec. 13.
