Welcome to our Friday feature, Week in Review. Every Friday, RCR Wireless News runs through the major events of the past week, outlining what happened and speculating on what to look for in the coming weeks, months and years. Check below for news about carriers, handset makers, content companies, infrastructure vendors and more.
Carriers
–Verizon Wireless agreed to settle a lawsuit from the New York attorney general’s office claiming the carrier’s advertisements for its unlimited data service were deceptive. The deal shows that while carriers are pushing for consolidation of nationwide regulations, states are still aggressively targeting what they see as misdeeds by operators.
Handsets
–Motorola Inc. saw its net earnings fall by 94% for the third quarter. Despite being dominant in the U.S. and vying with Samsung for No. 2 internationally, Motorola appears to still have its work cut out in regaining its Razr-fueled glory years.
Content
–Virgin Mobile USA began offering its subscribers the chance to create their own wallpapers and ringtones-and reap the benefits if someone else downloads their handiwork. The move shows further evolution of the mobile content market and how carriers are opening up their decks to consumers.
COMING IN MONDAY’S ISSUE OF RCR WIRELESS NEWS
–Jeffrey Silva updates the ongoing struggle to finalize 700 MHz auction rules ahead of the January event.
–Kelly Hill looks behind the numbers at AT&T Mobility and Apple’s Q3 financial results.
–And get a recap of last week’s CTIA I.T. & Entertainment 2007 event from San Francisco.
