Synchronica acquired GoodServer to boost its ability to target mobile device synchronization and management, the company announced. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
GoodServer’s technology was already a key component of Synchronica’s Mobile Gateway and the purchase will give Synchronica the sole rights to GoodServer’s intellectual property and existing license contracts, the company added.
Synchronica said it believes Push IMAP e-mail will be crucial to the growth of mobile e-mail and has put considerable investment and strategy in the field to back that aim. GoodServer’s IMAP technology, which is embedded in Synchronica’s system, makes push e-mail accessible on a majority of mobile phones.
Synchronica has also adopted a group of standards known as LEMONADE-shorthand for the License to Enhanced Mobile Oriented And Diverse Endpoints-to optimize mobile e-mail protocols such as Internet Message Access Protocol and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.
“Open industry standards have cleared the way for accessing PIM and e-mail on mass-market phones and the mobile e-mail market is set to explode over the next three years. We expect a dramatic increase of mobile e-mail, in particular in emerging markets, where the mobile operators have the opportunity to make the mobile phone the primary form of accessing the Internet and e-mail services,” Sychronica CEO Carsten Brinkschulte said in a prepared statement. “By acquiring the rights to GoodServer’s technology and extending our own IP licenses to other players in the industry, we are strengthening our position in the market for consumer and corporate mobile e-mail.”
