Homes with access to the NFL Network may be hard to find, but Sprint Nextel Corp. is giving the new channel more exposure by adding live NFL game coverage and other key moments of all games televised on the network to wireless subscribers’ mobile phones.
NFL Network will produce a three-hour show that will be streamed live exclusively to Sprint Nextel subscribers, the carrier announced. Highlights will include red-zone drives and other critical moments in a game.
“Sprint continues to drive innovation with NFL fans,” said Steve Gaffney, Sprint Nextel’s director of sports sponsorships. “Fans tell us they want to have the ability to watch live NFL game broadcasts on their phones and we’re enabling them to do that.”
Sprint Nextel is in its third year of a five-year deal to be the official wireless service provider of the NFL.
In other sports-related news, Verizon Wireless announced it has launched National Hockey League game video alerts, enabling hockey fans to receive video messages of game highlights on their mobile phones. The 15-second mobile video alerts will highlight key goals and remarkable plays, the carrier announced.
Verizon Wireless subscribers who sign up for the game highlights package will receive alerts after each period for every game, with a maximum of four video alerts sent in one night.
The NHL game highlights video alerts package costs $3 per month per team.
