Padmasree Warrior has been named Cisco Inc.’s CTO just a day after her departure from Motorola Inc.
Cisco, based in San Jose, Calif., is one of the world’s biggest networking companies. Warrior, who had been Motorola’s chief technology officer since 2003, was one of the company’s more high-profile executives. She came up through Motorola’s semiconductor operations and was a proponent of wireless-broadband technology, such as WiMAX.
Motorola announced Monday that Warrior, a 23-year veteran, left the company following a restructuring of its technology operations that included separating its 6,000-member software operation from research and development.
“We are headed into a new era that we define as the second phase of the Internet, driven by collaboration and Web 2.0 technologies where the network becomes the platform for communications and IT. It is an exciting time with new frontiers and opportunities for innovation. Padmasree’s new role as CTO will help to develop and promote Cisco’s future technology leadership,” Cisco CEO John Chambers said in a statement.
