Ringing insult
The King of Spain’s recent tongue-lashing of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has become a popular ringtone in Spain. King Juan Carlos asked Chavez, “Why don’t you just shut up?” at a summit earlier this month. The comment was turned into a ringtone that has been downloaded by about 500,000 people. The exchange started when Chavez accused Spain’s former prime minister of being a fascist and backing a coup attempt against him. The ringtone has generated about $2.2 million. T-shirts and mugs featuring the phrase are also selling like hotcakes.

Phoning it in
Too busy to actually attend college classes or even take classes via computer? Japanese students now have the option of taking college courses via cellphone. Cyber University, which offers classes exclusively online, is extending its offerings to mobile phones. Online courses typically offer downloadable lectures with video available. The cell phone version displays streaming video and plays Power Point images of lectures. Currently only one course is available via cellphone, but more could be added. Cyber University, which is majority owned by Japanese mobile carrier Softbank Corp., began in April and claims 1,850 students. Cellphone courses are currently only viewable on Softbank phones.
