Not that we spend too much time surfing Canadian carrier Web sites, but a quick glance of the Telus Mobility site shows some interesting coverage challenges for the Great White North. The carrier’s coverage map shows extensive availability of high-speed EV-DO Rev. A service across most of the province of Alberta – you know the one that’s home to Edmonton and Calgary as well as substantial oil fields? Pretty sweet for all those Albertans. But, go just one province to the right, that would be Saskatchewan – which is home to Saskatoon, Regina and considered the bread basket of Canada – and Telus Mobility’s coverage map shows nothing but analog coverage except for some 1x coverage in the formerly named metropolises. So the next time you have a road trip planned through Saskatchewan, you might as well leave that high-dollar CDMA device at home.

In celebration of this week’s Consumer Electronics Show extravaganza, we would like to share a few of the best pitches we received to see the latest and greatest in consumer electronics: Erector, yes the company behind everyone’s favorite toy the Erector Set, plans to introduce advancements to its Wi-Fi controlled Spykee robot. The new models will be dubbed Spykee Cell, Spykee Vox and Spykee Miss, which can be activated via Bluetooth or voice-activation capabilities depending on the model. These robots also include digital video cameras, MP3 players, a VoIP phone, microphone, loudspeaker, special light and sound effects and a pair of motors to allow for mobility. Of course, all of these functions will be used against the robot’s human master in sadistic ways shortly after the robot is freed from its packaging.

But the best pitch goes to audio system producer Goldmund, which offered to fly a handful of journalists on a private jet to Los Angeles to experience the Goldmund media room and preview the company’s Logos 3F subwoofer. No word on any stops at the Playboy Mansion.
