The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Austria: L.M. Ericsson said it has been chosen by Mobilkom Austria to expand and upgrade the carrier’s W-CDMA network with HSPA functionality in the region of Carinthia.
–Bihar: IDEA Cellular has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to supply a Greenfield GSM network. The three-year contract is valued at $150 million.
–Brazil: L.M. Ericsson said it has been chosen by Claro to provide a commercial network based on 3G/UMTS technology with HSDPA functionality in the metropolitan regions of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre.
–Chile: Entel PCS said it selected L.M. Ericsson to be the sole supplier for its nationwide GSM/W-CDMA/HSPA network expansion and upgrade.
–Denmark: Nokia Siemens Networks said it won a contract to supply a W-CDMA 3G radio network with HSPA capability to TeliaSonera.
–Israel: L.M. Ericsson said it has been selected by Partner Communications to replace and expand its W-CDMA/HSPA network. The deal calls for Ericsson to become the sole vendor of Partner’s GSM and W-CDMA/HSPA core and radio network, according to the companies.
–Saudi Arabia: Motorola Inc. said it signed a contract valued at $150 million with Etihad Etisalat to expand the carrier’s GSM coverage in the northwest and southwest regions of the country. Also in Saudi Arabia, Zain has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to roll out a full turnkey 2G and 3G mobile network, including core and radio equipment.
WiMAX
–Egypt: Aperto Networks said it has been chosen by Egypt’s Ministry of Interior to provide equipment for the nation’s first wireless WiMAX network, which will be used by law enforcement and government offices nationwide. Barkotel will provide engineering services for the deployment.
–South Korea: KT has chosen POSDATA to provide Mobile WiMAX base stations for a planned WiMAX network in the city of Pohang.
Miscellaneous
–India: Nokia Siemens Networks announced it won a pan India contract from Bharti Airtel Ltd. to deploy a single Interactive Voice Response platform across all 23 circles.
–Sweden: Banverket, the Swedish railway administration, has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to supply its @vantage commander element management solution as it upgrades its GSM-Railway system.
