The following list includes venture capital and other investments into wireless companies announced during the past week. The value of the investment is included when available.
—Airbiquity: Acorn Ventures, Kirnaf Ltd., Shell Internet Ventures and Ignition Partners invested $25 million into Seattle-based Airbiquity Inc. The company provides wireless data communications solutions for the machine-to-machine and telematics markets. The funding will be used primarily to support new and existing customers as part of the company’s global expansion initiative. Ignition Parnters is a new investor for Airbiquity.
—GoldSpot Media: Exa Ventures invested $3 million in a Series A funding round into GoldSpot Media, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company that specializes in mobile advertising. The company’s platform provides interactive ad-insertion for broadcast TV and streaming video on mobile phones.
—Momail: Swedish 6th Pension Fund and Bonnier Invest participated in a $5.4 million round of funding into Momail, a Swedish company that provides a mobile e-mail service. Individual investors also participated in the funding round. The company said the funding will allow it to expand into new markets as well as enhance product development.
—Smaato: Several angel investors invested $3.5 million into San Mateo, Calif.-based Smaato, which has developed a mobile advertising platform technology. Aeris Capital also participated in the funding round.
—Synchronica: Lanstead Capital L.P. invested $3.7 million into Synchronica through a placement of new ordinary shares. Proceeds will be used to continue development and accelerate commercialization of the company’s Mobile Gateway product.
