Infrastructure awards wrap-up: Ericsson, Nokia Siemens and Nortel

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Pakistan: Warid Telecom has chosen Ericsson to expand and upgrade its GSM/GPRS network. The agreement calls for Ericsson to supply core, radio, microwave and optical-transmission network equipment.
–Russia: Sky Link Ekaterinburg signed a contract with Nortel Networks that calls for Nortel to supply a CDMA EV-DO Rev. A upgrade to the carrier’s network.
–United States: Nortel Networks said it signed an agreement with U.S. Cellular to provide CDMA solutions to enhance voice and data services.
WiMAX
–United States: Sprint has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to deploy a subscriber database solution that it says will simplify operations and enhance customer service for the carrier’s XOHM WiMAX broadband network.
Miscellaneous
–Bangladesh: Ericsson and Grameen CyberNet Ltd. signed a contract for a fiber-to-the-home network based on Ericsson’s Gigabit Passive Optical Network solution.
