Sprint Nextel’s Xohm now scheduled for ‘later this year’: Delay due to ‘logistical’ troubles

Sprint Nextel Corp. isn’t committing to any specific launch date for Xohm this time around.
The carrier has pushed back rollout of its nationwide WiMAX service — which had been slated to come online this quarter — until “later this year,” according to spokesman James Fisher. But despite critics who question the viability of WiMAX services in the United States, Fisher was quick to point out that any problems were “logistical,” not technological.
“It certainly isn’t the WiMAX technology,” the spokesman said in explaining the delay. “It’s just a matter of logistical things. . It’s just a matter of making sure all the elements of a commercial launch are ready.”
Sprint Nextel is trialing WiMAX service in Washington, Chicago and Baltimore, Md.
