Texas Instruments Inc. said it is offering a single-chip, dual-slot hot swap manager for Advanced Mezzanine Cards to address power management in wireless networks, including Advanced TCA (ATCA) and MicroTCA systems.
The ATCA standard is gaining traction in the marketplace to replace proprietary networks from telecom equipment manufacturers. As such, silicon providers like Texas Instruments have a common target they can shoot for to offer highly integrated, less complex solutions in their designs. This allows telecom equipment manufacturers to get their products to market more quickly and more efficiently, said Jim Bird, TI systems engineer and a board member of the ATCA and MicroTCA standards committees.
TI introduced two hot swap products: The TPS 2359 comes with a 36-pin, PQFN package and sells for $5 in 1,000 piece quantities. The TPS 2358 is available in a 48-pin QFN with a suggested resale price of $4 for 1,000 piece quantities.
“With a common standard on power management, we’re able to provide a product that makes it a lot simpler to make a standards-compliant solution cheaper and simpler,” said TI’s Paul Schreier.
