NetMotion Wireless is bolstering the Internet voice and streaming video elements of its flagship virtual private network (VPN) offering.
The Seattle-based developer this week will release version 8.0 of Mobility XE, a client-server product designed to allow mobile workers to maintain connections to applications as they move through cellular coverage gaps and across networks. The latest offering “dramatically improves” the performance of real-time applications such as VoIP and streaming video, NetMotion said, and provides new security controls that extend corporate security policies.
“As businesses and government agencies deploy the newest real-time applications for their mobile workforce, it’s important for them to know that their existing investments in wireless technology will be utilized fully,” Yankee Group analyst Nathan Dyer said in a prepared statement from NetMotion. “Solutions like (Mobility XE) make it possible for enterprise to optimize their mobile implementations and take advantage of converging trends in VoIP and streaming video as their use extends to multiple wireless environments.”
NetMotion claims more than 1,200 businesses and agencies use its software, which runs on laptops and mobile devices running Microsoft Corp.’s Windows operating system. The 7-year-old outfit targets public safety agencies, home health care workers and businesses with mobile field personnel.
