Direct-to-consumer content vendor PlayPhone Inc. is expanding its footprint by merging with London’s Pitch Entertainment Group.
Pitch Entertainment delivers off-deck content, social networking applications and mobile marketing solutions in 20 markets primarily in Europe and Asia. PlayPhone operates its own content storefront as well as powering mobile portals for partners such as ABC Television, Wal-Mart, Cartoon Network and RealNetworks.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Pitch CEO Martin Bowley said in a prepared statement that he is “extremely delighted to become part of the PlayPhone family.” PlayPhone, which last year snared $18.7 million in a third round of funding, said the pact will increase channels of distribution for content from partners such as Sony BMG, Disney, Glu Mobile, Vivendi Universal and ABC Television.
“This merger takes us to the next level by allowing us to offer truly global and digital business-to-consumer initiatives with worthy client partners,” Bowley added.
