Nokia Corp. took another baby step to pry open the U.S. market with an announcement that its 5310 XpressMusic phone would sell at T-Mobile USA Inc. beginning on May 28.
The multi-format music phone will sell for $50 with a two-year contract and, thus, is designed and priced for T-Mobile USA’s youthful, cost-conscious subscriber demographic.
The phone comes bundled with a 1 gigabyte memory card to aid storage and side-loading of the owner’s music. Nokia’s own music store is not yet available in the United States.
The device’s feature set includes external music controls, stereo headset support (Bluetooth and wired) and a USB port.
The addition of the XpressMusic handset gives Nokia seven of 49 online handset SKUs at the Bellevue, Wash.-based carrier.
