Handango Inc. announced a deal to deliver content directly to consumers through Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications’ convergence phones.
The Texas-based retailer of smartphone applications said the worldwide pact will see its InHand client embedded on handsets, allowing users to shop for business offerings, games and other content directly from their phones. The partnership covers all Sony Ericsson’s convergence phones including the UIQ line of phones and the Xperia X1, which is the manufacturer’s first product running Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Mobile operating system.
The move is the latest in a series of aggressive deals from Handango to expand its distribution: The company last week said it will offer its wares through Best Buy’s Web site and brick-and-mortar stores, and in March Handango said it would partner with Carphone warehouse to sell applications to European users.
“Sony Ericsson’s global footprint provides us with direct access to millions of new smartphone customers, allowing Handango to educate them on how (to) personalize their device according to their individual needs,” said Handango CEO Bill Stone.
