Hands-On Mobile Inc. launched a new version of the hit Guitar Hero franchise.
The San Francisco-based publisher unveiled Guitar Hero II: Backstage Pass, a mobile title that places gamers in the role of rock stars who must promote their band, create demo tapes, sign record contracts and other tasks. Hands-On teamed with Activision Publishing Inc. for the game, which includes a community where players can exchange messages, check standings, download new virtual guitars and join contests.
Guitar Hero III launched last December on Verizon Wireless and was an immediate hit, becoming the carrier’s third-best seller of 2007. The title was the top seller on the operator’s deck in the first quarter of 2008, generating 1 million downloads including subscriptions.
“The Guitar Hero franchise has been key to our success,” according to Hands-On President Niccolo de Masi, “and (the latest release) will continue this while raising the bar for mobile phone gaming with unparalleled community and connectivity.”
