Digital content wholesaler uclick bulked up its portfolio thanks to a new pact with MTV Networks Inc.
The division of Andrews McMeel Universal said it received licensing rights for mobile images, short animations and videos from franchises including Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Spike and VH1. The deal includes content from hit shows including Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with John Stewart” and Nickelodeon’s “SpongeBob SquarePants” and will see ulclick distribute the offerings through its carrier partners and third-party retailers.
Uclick’s library also features comic-based content such as “Garfield,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Virgin Comics;” the company last year inked a deal to bring “Devil’s Due” comic content to mobile phones.
“At uclick we’re focused on well-known brands that translate into the most wanted personalization for handsets,” said CEO Douglas Edwards, who co-founded the application retailer Handmark before joining uclick earlier this year. “MTV Networks is an integral part of popular culture and reflects trends in music, fashion, lifestyle and politics. Their brands are a perfect fit for mobile and our global customers will welcome this creative content.”
