Danger adds customization to Sidekick: Device is first since Microsoft acquisition

T-Mobile USA Inc.’s new Sidekick device is the first to launch since Microsoft Corp. bought the software company at the heart of the Danger Inc. franchise. Sharp makes the handset’s hardware.
The news: The messaging-happy, social networking crowd that patronizes the Sidekick devices at T-Mobile USA can customize their Sidekick shells by submitting an image, color or visual design to the company, which will employ SkinIt to print the image on a Sidekick shell.
The new Sidekick device added the capability to record and share videos, but there was little sign of its new owner, Microsoft, as the device retains its proprietary operating system.
The quad-band, global device is available online for $150, with a mail-in rebate and customary two-year service contract.
