It’s a big year for wireless. As cellular communications celebrates its 25th anniversary with a lavish celebration planned for this October, more wireless luminaries have voiced support for the Wireless History Foundation.
The Foundation, designed to preserve and promote the rich history of wireless, plans to hold its kickoff event at 5 p.m., Oct. 13 at the Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago. The date marks the 25th anniversary of the start of cellular communications. Tickets are $250 each; tables of 10 are $2500. To register for the event, visit www.wirelessfoundation.org/Cellular25/index.cfm.
The new nonprofit initiative has enlisted more top-level executive support, including Verizon Communications Inc.’s Dennis Strigl; prominent telecom attorney Richard Wiley; Iridium Satellite’s Matt Desch; Intel Corp.’s Sean Maloney and consultant Andrew Seybold, as well as a number of others.
The Wireless History Foundation also announced new sponsors, including PCIA-The Wireless Infrastructure Association, and the Rural Cellular Association. CTIA already has said it will support the initiative.
WHF’s first main goal is to develop a Web site detailing the evolution of the wireless industry. The foundation will also overtake leadership of the RCR Wireless News Wireless Hall of Fame awards program.
