Zed, Nappy Boy to ring together

Mobile content behemoth Zed announced an exclusive deal to distribute ringtones from the digital-only record label Nappy Boy Digital.
Nappy Boy, which was founded by hip-hop star T-Pain, serves as a direct-to-consumer conduit for emerging artists such as Tay Dizm, Jay Lyriq and Sophia Fresh. Zed bought its way into the United States earlier this year with the acquisition of Monstermob Group Plc and its Denver-based subsidiary 9 Squared, and will distribute the ringtones through its on- and off-deck channels.
Zed also notched an exclusive agreement to sell realtones from KOCH Entertainment, whose artists include DJ Khaled, Kottonmouth Kings and BeBe Winans.
“Mobile has been good to me,” said T-Pain, who’s sold more than 15 million ringtones, “and this deal with Zed is a big step in making Nappy Boy Digital a true success. Hearing one of my songs on the radio or in a club is one thing, but hearing it come from someone’s pocket or purse is a different kind of felling – it’s more personal.”
