Google Inc. has taken its Street View service to mobile.
The Mountain View, Calif.-based company launched a new version of Google Maps for mobile that includes the same street-level photo images it offers on desktop computers. Google also added a beta version of walking directions as well as star ratings and full reviews for restaurants and other businesses.
A video showcasing the new service is available here.
“The newest Google Maps for mobile is available now for BlackBerry and many Java-enabled phones,” the company posted on its mobile blog. “We’re working on bringing all these new features to other platforms as well, so stay tuned.”
The launch comes amidst a flurry of activity from the Internet behemoth. In the past week Google has introduced a mobile app for BlackBerry devices and a location-based mobile search offering, and T-Mobile USA reportedly will introduce the first Android phone next week.
