Wireless subscribers in the United States have closed the gap with Western Europe in terms of 3G adoption, according to new research from Comscore.
The firm reports the United States has experienced 80% growth in 3G subscribers during the past year and that 28.4% of American mobile subscribers – or 64.2 million – now own a 3G device vs. 28.3% in Europe’s largest countries. Comscore said the only countries that exceed the United States in 3G penetration are Italy and Spain.
“For years, the American mobile industry has aspired to the level of sophistication of the European market,” said Mark Donovan, senior VP and senior analyst at ComScore. “Today, Americans have finally caught up with Europeans in adoption of 3G.
