Flickr is targeting smartphone users with an upgraded mobile site.
The popular photo-sharing destination – which claims it has seen a 50% increase in mobile traffic over the last year – “radically overhauled” its wireless Web site, adding video playback capabilities for iPhone and iPod Touch users; other video-capable handsets will be supported “over the coming weeks.” Other new features on the redesigned site include allowing users to add contacts, favorite images and change privacy and permission settings.
The upgraded site, available at http://m.flickr.com/, builds on a beta offering for iPhone users that was released in October and now supports browsers including Webkit, Opera Mobile and Firefox Mobile.
“The mobile phone has become central to how many of our users take pictures and how they share their view of the world with the important people in their life,” according to a company blog post. “We think the new Flickr mobile experience reflects all the cool possibilities that today’s advanced and rich mobile Web has to offer, combined with all the funcationality Flickr members know and love.”
