Traffic studies via GPS

Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, are hoping to use GPS-enabled wireless phones to help them study traffic data.
Participants in the study will be asked to download software onto their phone that tracks their movements and submits the information to a server housed at the university. The system puts the data into a mathematical model that estimates traffic in real time and broadcasts it to the Internet and phones. For their participation, volunteers will receive personalized traffic information on their cellphone.
