AT&T Mobility partners with TeleNav on enterprise offering

AT&T Mobility launched an end-to-end solution for its enterprise customers interested in tracking and managing their fleet of vehicles with a solution developed by TeleNav Inc.
Starting this week, AT&T Mobility will offer TeleNav’s Vehicle Tracker through its wireless network. The GPS-enabled device has been added to the wireless carrier’s portfolio of enterprise mobility services.
The solution allows companies to monitor and manage its fleet through a Web-based management console. Managers can log onto the site and view the location of each vehicle. The solution also can track mileage, speed and the time a vehicle is stopped. The solution also can track if a vehicle’s engine is turned on or even if the doors are open.
AT&T Mobility said it offers hundreds of fleet management solutions, but TeleNav’s Vehicle Tracker is the first end-to-end solution for the carrier, according to Igor Glubochansky, AT&T Mobility’s director of industry solutions.
“Some of the solutions we offer are simple and some are more
complex,” Glubochansky said. “What makes this solution unique is we are now able to deliver a complete solution. This solution offers the leading software, hardware and connectivity from a single source.”
The solution also differs from competitors is that the software can work with a number of wireless handsets, said Harold Allen, senior marketing manager at AT&T Mobility’s Business Solutions division.
“Up until now, there has not been an open system,” Allen said. “If you bought the software, you had to buy the hardware.”
Allen said the features and functionality of the solution can be customized to track how long a vehicle idles, noting 35 states have laws that prohibit vehicles from idling during stops. Fines in some states are as much as $300.
“One citation can go a long way to pay for this solution,” Allen said.
As part of the solution offering AT&T Mobility and TeleNav entered into a revenue-sharing agreement. The device is $399, with a monthly charge of $34 per device. Customers will also pay a one-time setup fee of about $20 per unit and an $18 data plan activation fee.
Keith Halasy, TeleNav senior marketing manager, said the company is excited to offer the solution to AT&T Mobility customers. The wireless carrier is on of the largest in the country and serves more than 70 million customers.
“This is powerful for us,” Halasy said of working with AT&T Mobility. “This is a nice tool for AT&T to have in its arsenal.”
TeleNav offers a similar product to Sprint Nextel Corp. customers. Halasy said the solution offered to Sprint Nextel’s business customers is widely used.
“Uptake has been strong,” Halasy said. “We hope to replicate that success with AT&T.”
