Best Buy to sell applications through Handango partnership

Handango Inc. announced an expansion of its distribution deal with Best Buy Co. Inc. that will see the big-box retailer selling smartphone applications through its in-store Mobile Genie system.
Best Buy Mobile customers will be offered a catalog of business and enterprise applications for BlackBerry, Palm, Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile devices; a Best Buy-branded version of Handango’s In-Hand client will also be loaded onto each device for future, over-the-air purchases. And Best Buy will offer microSD cards with three gaming titles for BlackBerry, Palm and Windows Mobile handsets.
“Customers will now be able to purchase top titles a la carte with simple pricing and have them downloaded and installed by Best buy Mobile’s expert staff, making it easier than ever to personalize their devices,” Handango CEO Bill Stone said in a prepared statement.
Best Buy has aggressively moved into online and mobile software in the last year with the $121 million acquisition of Napster and an effort to build out 200 wireless-only stores in the United States.
