Microsoft Corp. and Gemalto have paired up to offer Windows Live Messenger services to consumers through a new client application that will come pre-installed on SIM cards.
The SIMessenger application from Gemalto is certified by Microsoft.
Gemalto said users will have a similar Messenger experience on their phone to what they are used to on their personal computer. The company said SIMessenger automatically launches when the handset is switched on.
Three operators have deployed the application, including Oi in Brazil, Personal SA in Argentina and Movistar in Peru.
